We started Little Rides because of two such children. Our boys are digger obsessed, and as a family with a diesel mechanic dad and a mum who wanted to give kids the kind of hands-on play that makes their eyes go wide, the idea sort of built itself.

Little Rides is Christchurch's first children's mini digger party hire, bringing a real working digger and built-in pit straight to your event anywhere across Canterbury

The digger arrives on a trailer, fully sorted

Our mini digger is electric, child-friendly and permanently fixed to its own heavy-duty trailer That is important for a couple of reasons:

First, it means the machine sits on a stable, level platform from the moment we arrive. No wobbling, no tipping, no surprises.

Second, it means we handle the entire setup. Delivery, positioning and pickup are all part of the hire. You do not have to lift a finger or hose anything down afterwards.

The digger is built for ages three and up, with speed settings that can be adjusted for younger operators.

We do need a flat, accessible spot to park the trailer, and access to a power point since the digger runs on electricity. An extension cord and weather-safe plug casing come with us. Beyond that, we sort the rest.

A small business with a bigger mission

Every paid hire helps fund free visits to preschools, childcare centres and kohanga reo across Canterbury. Taking the digger to early childhood centres, with a mobile sandpit, is one of the most rewarding parts of running this business.

The children we meet on those visits often have not had a chance to operate anything like it, and the look on their faces is the whole reason we do this!

So when you book a Little Rides digger for your child's birthday, you are also helping another child somewhere in Canterbury get their first turn at the controls.
